The experiment in the previous email proves its point in yet another way: in step 2, when you’re turning the blur up and down in the red channel of the digital image, when you turn it way up to where it’s visible, you see that the effect of a visibly blurry red channel is not even remotely evocative of the film “look." If anything, it looks very electronic and not photochemical: like a really bad VHS tape where color edges don’t align properly (like going outside the lines of a coloring book). [So, a blurry red channel can have no perceptual effect at all or it can have the effect of looking like a garish electronic mistake, but it doesn’t have the perceptual effect of having a film-like photochemical aesthetic.]
